History

Clyde Park Vineyard is situated in the rich Bannockburn wine region of Victoria.  The history of Clyde Park and the Bannockburn region dates as far back as the 1800s when the area was first explored. Although the Bannockburn region is relatively small, the unique geographical and geological features of this region influenced the agricultural activities of the early settlers.  The soil north of Bannockburn was different from that of the soils on the banks of the Moorabool River.  In some places the soil was heavily alkaline, better suited to fruit and grape growing, whilst in others, the soil was acidic and better suited to Merino sheep.

The area was first developed around 1837 by a group of seven partners known as the Clyde Company.  It was thought that these partners had presumably come from the Lowlands of Scotland not far from the River Clyde.  Their close proximity to the river was where the name, The Clyde Company, originated from. This group of settlers thus named the land and its surroundings, Clyde Park.
